McVities’ Hula Hoops factory in Ashby-de-la-Zouch
Pitched roof – fibre cement sheet
McVities had asked Under1 Consultants to carry out surveys on all of their industrial factory roofs at their Ashby site and to provide a planned and routine maintenance programme.
Not long after the surveys they encountered water ingress in their Hula-Hoops factory and called upon Under1 to investigate.
The water was being caused not by a leak as expected but due to condensation.
A thermographic survey was carried out to assess the energy performance of the building which immediately identified the condensation issues being due to the existing roof containing very little insulation, especially considering the heat build-up from the fryers and machinery.
Under1 proposed an immediate course of action for the condensation issue alongside the planned maintenance across the site. To deal with the water ingress the existing roof needed to be removed and replaced with a new composite panel roof with a combination of Kingspan insulation products both in the new roof and the deck area over the fryers which contained the pipes.
